Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail shall keep fellow78 grads from their appointed get- together...only covid could do that. But this gang weathered the weather that night and managed to make it happen. With a lot of catching up and a glass raised to remember those who are no longer with us an enjoyable evening was had by all.
Same place, same date and same time next year!

FRANK JOSEPH BALDANZA
October 7, 1959 - January 18, 2022

Frank passed away peacefully on January 18, 2022 in his 63rd year. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of twenty-nine years, Anne Snider; his children, Michael and Christina; his parents, Joseph and Rosaria; his mother-in-law, Louise Snider; his siblings, Anthony (Irma), Josephine Wilkinson, and Joseph (Mary Dart); his sisters-in-law, Mary Snider and Margaret Snider-McGrath (Rory); his nieces and nephews, Alex Wilkinson (Cristina Schieda), Andrea Pitula (Matt), Andrew (Anne Barbeau), Christopher, Jessica, Jack, Ally, and Ben and Spencer Snider-McGrath. Frank was predeceased by his father-in-law, Allan Snider and his brother-in-law Greg Wilkinson.

Hardworking and energetic, Frank found his professional calling as a Tax partner at Deloitte in Toronto. He specialized in the real estate sector and he loved the intellectual challenge of creating tax planning opportunities for his clients. But his real love was for his family ? his wife, Anne (also an accountant) and their two children, for whom he delighted coaching hockey and soccer and with whom, along with Anne, he shared numerous family trips. Frank was a devoted son, brother, uncle, nephew and cousin and relished the numerous family celebrations and milestones every year.

Frank was kind and loving, with a genial temperament and a ready sense of humour. His friends came from all phases of his life and included many life-long friends from his years at Michael Power-St. Joseph High School and the University of Toronto. Outside of work, Frank loved engaging in household projects at home and cottage, listening to and sharing his favourite music (there was no question that John was the ?best? Beatle), following the Toronto Maple Leafs (even when it was painful to watch) and participating in athletic endeavours: playing tennis, squash and hockey in younger years; skiing and snowshoeing at Craigleith; and golfing, cycling and hiking with Anne and friends in various parts of Canada and the U.S., especially southern Georgian Bay and The Blue Mountains.

The family would like to thank Maureen Daniels, Dr. Warren Mason and his team, and all the staff from the Gerry and Nancy Pencer Brain Tumour Centre at Princess Margaret Hospital for their treatment and compassionate care of Frank, beginning with his brain tumour diagnosis (oligodendroglioma) over twenty-one years ago. The family would also like to thank Dr. Jenny Lau and her team in the Palliative Care Unit at Princess Margaret Hospital for following Frank since 2020 and for their exceptional care of Frank during his final days.

A visitation will be held at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West, Toronto. Due to the restrictions surrounding Covid, space is limited and registration is required. The family requests that all guests be double-vaccinated should they wish to attend. To register for the visitation please refer to the Turner & Porter website.

A private family service will be held on Monday, January 24, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. by invitation only. For those not able to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed. Please use the link provided below to view the livestream. Please visit Turner & Porter website for details.

Memorial donations may be made to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation (Fund allocation: Kirchmann Family Chair in Neuro-Oncology Research Fund or the Palliative Care Program Fund): https://supportthepmcf.ca/ui/DonateNow/donations/start

Harvey Sazunic 8 mars 1945

Harvey Sazunic

March 8, 1945 -  January 4, 2019

Harvey Ivan Sazunic passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on Friday, January 4, 2019 after a brave 5 year battle with a rare neurodegenerative disease. He is survived by his dear wife of 46 years Doreen, his daughters Nicole (Mark) and Martina (Simon) and two grandchildren Isabella and Ellington.

Known to most as Harvey, Big Harv, Mr. Sazunic, The Saz, or just Sir, he was born Hrvoj Ivan Sazunic on March 8, 1945 in Zagreb, Croatia. He moved to Toronto, Canada in 1956.

He graduated from St. Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia with his Masters in History and Minor in Political Science. He met his beloved wife Doreen while in Halifax. They both earned their Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto.

Shortly afterwards, he and Doreen got married on October 7, 1972 in Toronto. In 1977 he and Doreen became parents, welcoming their first child Nicole and their second daughter Martina, in 1983.

He taught at Michael Power St. Joseph from 1973 - 2007 when he retired. He was known for his passionate lecturing style, witty sense of humour, and love of pranks. He also coached Boys’ Soccer and Girls’ Basketball. Ask any of his former students and they’re sure to share a happy memory of him.

Harvey loved all sports, but he especially loved soccer. His daughters grew up watching the Toronto Blizzards in the early 80’s, and in more recent years, he and his granddaughter enjoyed watching the TFC.

Friends and former students enjoyed his lighthearted Sports’ Pools, something he continued updating even as his disease progressed. As his disease further limited his mobility, his incredible wife took over to ensure it continued because she knew how much he loved it.

His passion for travel was shared with his best friend and former Power teacher, Frank Petko with whom he joined on many a March Break trip. Harvey and Doreen continued their travel along with Frank and Susan Petko into retirement and in his lifetime Harvey visited over 50 cities around the world.

Harvey was also known for his patience and discipline. After many years of training, he earned his First and Second Dan Black Belt in Karate. When signs of his disease began, he stayed focused and completed his Black Belt in Weapons Training.

A devout Catholic, Harvey and his family were parishioners of St. Gregory’s Church where he also volunteered his time as an usher. His faith along with the support of his children, close friends, home assist helpers, and especially his wife Doreen, helped him during his most difficult years.

Doreen stayed by Harvey’s side and advocated for him throughout his entire disease. She cared for him at home, so they could be together and comfortable until his final days.

Harvey’s positivity and love for life was felt by all who met him. He has touched the lives of so many in such a positive way and his family is so thankful to have enjoyed so many wonderful moments with him. We will continue to honour him by sharing his positive outlook on life and by cheering on his beloved Reds.

Visitation Monday January 7, 2019 -  Butler Chapel (Dundas and Burnhamthorpe)  6 to 9pm.
Mass at St. Gregory"s on Tuesday January 8, 2019 at 1100 a.m.
