All the best to all fellow 1978 grads. May 2013 be filled with lots of love, laughter and many blessings!Leslie:)
Just purchased my ticket (& encouraged others to attend). Looking forward to the 40th re-union for a happy occasion. RIP to all our dearly departed on the memorial page herein, but they will be there in spirit and in our hearts.
All right. I've finally purchased my ticket for the 60th grad birthday bash on June 7th at Gabriel's Restaurant. This will be my 3rd 60th birthday celebration this year. Please, no gifts :p P.S. Don't forget to help out with this site.
Hello Everyone, I hope that everyone is coping the best way they can under this pandemic period. I trust that together we can get through this unprecedented time of our generation. Funny how on reflection, even though we may have been grateful for our blessings, NOW even more so, we are ever so grateful for so very much!!!! The people whom we've loved & love still. The times we've shared. The smallest of things that have brought us so much joy. Please reach out, take the time to make a call, reminisce and have a laugh or two, with someone. It might make a difference in their day, and I am certain it will make a difference in yours. Many people are lonely, messed up or could really use a pick me up...so pick someone up! During our time in highschool, as I recall, there were families who had parents, siblings, aunts/uncles, cousins etc. who attended MPSJ. My four children are MPSJ grads & so this tradition continues. It is with this in mind I am asking all of you to help out one of ours, who has written in our guest book, Mike Semchison. Maybe, if a parent/ uncle/cousin attended he remembers Mike. Of course there was a St.Joe's connection. Mike attended MP for 2 years, let's say 58/59 then transferred to Mimico in 1960. Any one out there who recalls this time? Any yearbooks from this period? Any photos from this period? Maybe via Mimico neighborhood as well. Mike mentioned classmates Bruce Penny, Ron Polionous, Peter Dowdall, Denis Bertrand, Brian Corbett, Michael Cleary, Michael O'Reilly. etc. Fr. Ted Mclean homeroom teacher, gym coach and mentor. His uncle started a swingband under the Music Dept. at Mimico Highschool and performed under the stage name of Johnny Lindon, a rising star on the Canadian Music scene. Johnny Lindon performed with Gino Silvi(CBC, the Silvi Singers etc)whose son Ron(passed)was best friends with Mike. The Silvis were very close. ANY information is welcome and most appreciated. Please contact Mike through our guest book /or myself & I will pass the information forward. God Bless & keep well Carmen
To all of alumni who attended the 50th Birthday Bash in June, if you have pictures, could you please post them? What a great time was had by all! Wishing you all a very Merry Xmas and a Healthy and Wealthy New Year. (Slainte!) (Cheers is Irish)
Happy New Year to the half-century club members, I hope your Christmas was Mary and holy and I wish 2010 will be fulfilling--it's all that you make it--(doesn't that sound like a guidance counsellor?) Congrats to Msgr. Petar (Peter '78) Rajic. Leslie has placed my noteto her and you under "grad news"---just one clarification--Peter will be the Apostolic Nuncio (Pope's Rep.) to Kuwait,Bahrein,Qatar and Delegate to the Arabian Peninsula. The UAE and Yemen do not yet have diplomatic relations with Vatican City. Peter will be ordained an Archbishop in Mostar on January 23/10. God's blessings and graces be with you in this new pastoral ministry,Peter. JV
Class of '94 Just had a nostalgic memory of high school and looking online for any info or photos to now show my kids who will soon attend high shcool. Unfortunately i can not find any pics online of the old site on Dundas/Bloor. Those were the good old days. You are forever in my heart Michael Power / St. Joe's
Just checking in again. I stay in touch with a few of you via my Facebook. Got an email from Leslie to chip in to support this site. Looks like another re-union is in the works for next year. Stay healthy and happy. Best wishes to all. Remember our dearly departed brothers and sisters too, all of them much too young. Ciao for now. Gerry Simone :D
Just wanted to wish all my MPSJ Family a most joyous Christmas & the very best for the coming New Year 2012.May you enjoy Christmas gathered with your loved ones & fondly reminisce of past times shared.May we move forward with love & hope in our hearts for better days & a better world. God Bless Us All.
Hello! Sorry I missed the 50th birthday party. It would have been nice to share some of the pains of getting older with you all! Teen trouble, wife weight, arthritis and stiffness......but there are also some satisfactions that go along with a few more grey hairs. Hey, I want to remind you that the Arctic Winter Games go on in Grande Prairie in March, for teens ages 12-17! After the Vancouver Olympics, this is next dude! If anyone might be interested in visiting, I extend this invitation, even if just to get away for a while to a place out of the way and reeelax. So what do you guys think of this new Camaro? Reminds of the old days with those guys parked in front of St. Joe's trying to impress the girls, and it's a pretty nice car too. It just snowed here today unfortunately, and I just flew back from Toronto's weather last night from the Critical Care Forum! Make sure you all get the H1N1 vaccine because it has the potential to be very serious for our age group too. I'm getting my whole family vaccinated. With Love and Blessings, Hugo Bertozzi
Hi there Leslie, looks like you pulled it off again and I missed it again. Judging by the photos, you all had a good time. You all look great btw. There's always the 60th next year. 60.... really? Talk soon. Mary....up here in Wiarton.
Thank you Leslie and team for yet another wonderful reunion evening. The venue was perfect and the opportunity to reconnect with so many, priceless. Your hard work Leslie is so very much appreciated. We had a wonderful time. Kathy and Greg
It is with deepest regrets that I inform my MPSJ Family that our former principal, Sister Imelda Cahill has passed away. Would everyone be so kind as to remember her in their prayers. May she rest in peace.
Wow, names from the past. Remos place in rexdale, sounds like a plan. I would be great if you can email me, so I can meet you guys there. Hope to see you soon.Mark Tierneygreensbee@hotmail.com
To all the gang from both St. Joes & Michael Power Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year!!! From Ross DiChiara.
Hi all, we're looking forward to the reunion. I'm married to fellow grad Kevin Shanahan (another wedding officiated by Fr. Vetere). We are 'almost' empty nesters; two of our three children have flown the coop. After 30 years I could probably still belt out a Power cheer...but you can forget about the jumps. And yet...lets hear three cheers for Leslie!!! (leaps into air...oww, crick in back...help me out here Maggie!).
Hello All! My, how time flies when you're having fun! Has it really been 30 years. I managed to locate and dust off the 1978 Clarion year book - what a heck of a great high school we attended back in the day! Leslie... you've done a super job arranging all of this. Judging by the responses, it sounds like Sep 6 will certainly be a night to remember - have a blast!Mary
LeslieYou have done a great job at this undertaking, my hat is off to you, thanx.I can not believe it has been 30 years, but it has....I can say that I think about the good times at Power, and all the great people that were at school during those years.when my son (Shawn) started into high school, I remember telling him, this is one of the best times in your life, so have a good time.It will be great to see everyone from the past high school days, looking forward to this event.See you all laterKevin
Hi Everybody,Hard to believe that 30 years have gone by in a flash. Looking forward to seeing everyone again. I've already purchased my tickets.I've been living in London, On for the past 20 years, married with four kids Cam (21), Andrew (19), Anne-Marie (17), and Kieron (14). Still working as a nurse and enjoying it.Leslie, you've done a fabulous job on the website!!! See you in September.Keira (Timson) Evans
I am older and think of teachers from high school I realize how fortunate I was to be taught by such a dedicated faculty and classmates You are all in my prayers Mr. Muccilli Sister Elizabeth Father Kelly Father Johnston Mr Teriney Father Redmond Ms Edgar Ms Poole Mr Oleary Thank You
I've been lurking for months on this site, enjoying the lead up to the event, reading postings and watching involvement grow. Long past time to sign in. I've been married to Vickie Rzadki (MPSJ 1981) for over 21 years; this makes me Joanne Rzadki's ('78) brother-in-law and cousin-in-law to a dozen or more MPSJ grads. Fr. John Vetere officiated at our wedding. Three kids (Stephen - 20, Emily - 18, James - 15.) U of T Commerce led to Chartered Accountancy, which led to databases, which has led to 14 years of independent SAP consulting. I'm fortunate to have a long list of great personal friends who are MPSJ grads: one best man (with a nod to Drury), a godfather (hey, Denis Gubert); four of my closest musical friends on the planet are Power grads from near years (Stanowski, Corcoran, Telewiak (also a godfather), Antonacci.) Vacation buddies over the years: Cachia, Baldanza, Cooper, all 78. Then there's all the 78 guys who get together at the Crooked Cue every year on Dec 23rd; come on out this year. A bunch of us have been doing this since about 1983. All in all, my Power connections have been terribly important to me. My memories of all years are vivid. I'm grateful for them. I'm even more grateful for being able to renew many friendships through re-unions over the years and one or two phone conversations with grads leading up to this event. Thanks, Leslie, for taking the bull by the horns. See y'all there.
So I'm here in Toronto now... I can't believe you wouldn't change the date! Do you believe it? Anyway, way to go Leslie.Heading home tomorrow (Florida) going to miss you all especially you Kevin, you Angel!!
Those 5 years were indeed special, the atmosphere of the school was great, upbeat, positive. A large part of that was due to the teachers like Fr. Vetere, Wally Bonchar, Muccilli, Father Kelly. I want to thank them all again and hope to see them at the reunion. Looking forward to seeing everyone again soon, flying in to Toronto on the thursday from Alberta. Someone call Emil Schemitsh and invite him out, and Martin Carraciolo, Peter Wuebbolt, Mark Hamel, and ......
It's wonderful to see so many familiar names listed here. Fabulous job Leslie. Congratulations and thank you. Rob and I live on PEI, in the country on a hill over looking the Northumberland Strait. It's a far cry from the busy life in Toronto, but I love it. We have a family of six Japanese Chins (small dogs) and three house cats. Wish I could attend on the 6th but it's the first week back at school (work). I will be thinking of you all and look forward to seeing lots of pictures posted!Best wishes,Wendy
Great job Leslie. Lynn Sullivan and I have been married for 22 years, living in Oakville with 3 great kids. Drew 20, Laura 17 & Jeffrey 16. Still commuting to Niagara 29 years later for work.I passed on the link to Tom Yeager, says he's coming.Anyone heard from Chris "QP" Bannon?See ya soonDrew
Hello friends from long ago (as opposed to OLD friends)! How many times in the last 30 years have you thought of doing something and never quite got around to it? Perhaps one of those things was to connect with a long-lost friend from MPSJ. Thanks to Leslie, we can now do just that with very little effort. Each one of us is indebted to Leslie for her tireless determination and effort in making 'A Night To Remember' happen. Here's your chance to do one of those things that you've always intended to do - reconnect with friends that were such a big part of your life at one time. One final question "What are you waiting for?" Order your ticket now - I just did and it feels GREAT!
Hi everyone. It's hard to believe 30 years have gone by (although I'm reminded daily in the mirror). I just celebrated my 25th wedding anniversary to Mike Di Franco (76 alumni) and we have 2 kids, Mark (22 ) and Katie (17). I've been a teacher with the TCDSB since 1982. We live in Mississauga.I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone soon (hope we'll recognize each other).Bye for now,Mirella
Looking forward to seeing everyone. Way to go Leslie!
Hi Everyone and a special thanks to Leslie. I have been married to Glenn for 25 years and have a beautiful 12 year old daughter, Jennifer. After 16 years at Ontario Hydro, as a computer analyst, I took a package and decided to start a home day care business. I now watch 4 toddlers, 2 cats, 1 hamster and 1 puppy (the animals are ours). I guess I finally have that large family I always wanted. I can hardly wait to see friends from the past and return to those carefree days...even for a few hours. See you on the 6th.
Found this while looking for someone. So here I am. Semi retired, on my own, one awesome daughter and two grands. And laughing now because Sister Virginia is having the last laugh. I have been working the past 14 years in the Great White North, nursing the First Nations. All those comics I drew of our dear sister lassoing fellow students for retreats. And her entreaty to me and others in Grade 13 to accompany her to volunteer in our Northern Reserves. Hell no, said I, if I volunteer anywhere I will go around the world blah blah blah. And here I am so many years later working with those I never thought to serve. God has a sense of humour. I have also served as Director of Operations in Mexico for medical missions, and have been volunteering my time around the world as well. Have I mentioned that I became a nurse...? So while I kept myself happy, I think Sr. V had the final laugh. Praise be to God.
Wishing one and all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.Be good, be happy, have fun!Leslie:)
Hello fellow Grads!Hope this note finds everyone well. Our reunion was a wonderful evening and still holds good memories. I only regret not speaking to more people...the evening seemed to fly.Wanted to extend my warmest wishes to everyone for a safe and happy Christmas and for a New Year filled with good health and happiness!Hoping that we stay in touch over the next years.Patti
Hello Friends,I just looked over all the reunion photos again and everyone's Grad Photos. It sure brings back a certain longing, of times past, opportunities come and gone, some taken, some not, some that we didn't even realize were there. Here I go being sentimental again. I know that I wasn't the most sociable and outgoing, and somewhat selfish too, self-conscious, so I didn't get to know a lot of people well. In a word, inept and immature, pretty rough around the edges. However, I do want to say that you all were a great group to spend those 5 years with, and I made some great friends and many great acquaintances. I wish you all a blessed and memorable time this Christmas with family and friends, wherever in the world you are! With fond memories, and also looking ahead to what the Lord has in store for us all, which must be much greater and higher and perfect than anything we have experienced yet in this life, a spectacular culmination of all of those hopes and dreams and aspirations of our youth, but with all the disappointments fulfilled, all our mistakes redeemed! God Bless and with a Hug, Hugo (at the start of the lonely Highway to Alaska, in Grande Prairie, Alberta) - hey look me up dude (I'm going to try having more fun skiing on snow and water with my 4 kids, and call people "dude" ya' know, ride the EAC) when you pass thru - just page me at the hospital, or call 780-933-1763 (cell)
I didn't quite make it to graduation. I guess that's what happens when you're 17 and offered a good job. I actually worked for that company fo 21 years, so maybe it was a good move. Looking forward to seeing everyone.
I'm sorry I missed the 50th reunion last year but I really looking forward to seeing everyone on Sept. 6th. It really will be a night to remember and reminisce. Leslie, thank you for organizing the event.
Looking forward to seeing everyone. Here's hoping that most will come along.
Unfortunately I won't be able to attend on the 6th. Hope everyone has a great time re-connecting and rekindling friendships. Kudos to Leslie for the awesome job of coordinating the event.I've been married for 19 years to a wonderful lady, Michele, and have three terrific kids (12,15,16). Living and working in Guelph for the past 12 years (management at the WSIB) - you can't beat a 5-minute commute to the office! Cheers.
As we get closer to the reunion I find I'm logging in more often just to see who has signed in, what you have all been up to and who will be attending. It's been really great to read about everyones lives to date. And as always Kevin, you are an entertainer. Some things never change. I think that's the best part. Looking forward to the 6th.
I will be missing a great time to be sure but a quick trip to the reunion is a bit of a journey. I make my home in Honolulu Hawaii these days (last 14 years-3 girls). My eldest daughter's HS colours were maroon and gold and a day didn't go by in those 4 years that I wasn't reminded of many of you and the great times spent at MPSJ. Enjoy reconnecting with your friends. Drop me an e-mail if any of you come to the islands....a few mini reunions have already taken place here over a few Mai Tai's. Aloha
Just dropping in to check in.Anyways, great site and good to see familiar faces and to read the updates, etc. God bless all & see you around. :)p.s. A few alumni seem to frequent Remo\'s Place in Rexdale (Paul Smith, Paul MacDonnell, David Spagnola).
I hope all of the pretty girls that went to St. Joe's (and that's ALL OF YOU!) will be wearing your kilts! As far as the guys go, Dejulio said he would pay $100 to each one of you that still fits int their Power blue blazer! And not to fret, it is believed that Mr. Pal Bokor (aka Palko) will be attending as well so sharpen up your fists! Looking forward to seeing you all. Thank You Leslie! Russ
Leslie, this was a huge undertaking, and you've done an amazing job. I can only imagine the hours spent! Looking forward to seeing everyone - hopefully we still recognize each other! It's great to see all these familiar names in the guest book. Good idea to book a few after-hours party rooms at the hotel. See you all soon.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at this Galla event. Thanks Leslie for all your hard workP. Carey
I would love to attend but I will be away. Are you sure it has been 30 years? I thought I was only turning 40 this year! I will say a great big hello to everyone and I know you will enjoy yourselves. Take care and health and happiness to all of you!
Looking back on a 31 year teaching career (after 4 years of retirement), I realize that the late 70's at Power/St.Joe's were indeed golden years. My fellow retirees, Joe Muccilli, Bob Amaolo, Joseph Pastor, Ed D'Andrea, Chet Dziuba and Anna DeVito (who all became staff at Father John Redmond in 1985) agree that the years your graduating class spent at MPSJ were among the most special to us in our years as instructors there. By the way, Muccilli, Pastor, Amaolo and I would love to have any of you join us for coffee at Timothy's Sherway Gardens any Friday afternoon around 3 pm. We will try to make an appearance at the reunion to say hi. If not, all the best to you and God bless!
